The danger of a Single Story

'Show a people as one thing, as only one thing, over and over again,
and that is what they become'

Nigerian writer Adichie is talking about the danger of the single story.

The single story that the rest of the world knows about you.

the single story that "robs people of their dignity".

in reality the story told by the powerful.

For Africa its poverty and war.

For immigrants its 'sneaking across borders',

stealing food and services from the 'host' country

whether its Mexicans into the US, or 'Africans' into Greece.

The single story of 2010 Greece is under construction...

(but I have a feeling the 'lazy Greeks' will override the 'evil Spreads').

I want to share two books that tell the many stories of

the single stories that 'sneak' into our country.

and that tell it in an amazing way.

'Δακρυσμένος ήλιος΄ της Chimamanda Ngoz Adichie
